A programme by Fondazione Mediterraneo to favour the mutual understanding through meetings, images and music
Nurit Sharett is trying to establish why she is returning to Israel. She wants to convey something she cannot put into words to her girlfriend in Switzerland, and so films everyday scenes in Israel. She shows preparations against a chemical attack during the Iraq war, the market, her favorite square and then her father who, although he has given up hope about a solution to the conflict, is trying to conduct an optimistic and fulfilled life. The video letter is a result of the tension between her longing for Europe, in which she spent many years of her life, and her belonging to the Middle East.
Born in Israel in 1963, Nurit has a degree in directing from the Camera Oscura School of Tel Aviv in 1985. She has realised many exhibitions and screenings in Europe and in Israel. Recently she organised a solo exhibition at the Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center in Istanbul. In 2004 she won the 12th Alter-Native International Short Film Festival in Targu-Mures in Romania.
